Paul Murray our fabulous educator, often known by the alias Matua X Maaan, has hurt his knee - bad

But he has to move this weekend (June 1-2).  Can you lend a hand?  Please please please. Time bank credits are up for grabs!! (these can be traded for massages....)

It's just from Cliff Street into Smith Street, he may need someone to drive with his bung knee, and definitely some carriers.

Call/text Paul on 02102933647

Kowhai seedlings and pittosporums

Posted 10 years, 11 months ago    3 comments

I have been given a few lovely little kowhai seedlings.  Your welcome to come and pick one up from the environment centre. Free to good homes.

There are also some kowhai seeds here, they will be added to the seed bank if anyone is keen.

Some tips on growing kowhai: http://www.doc.govt.nz/documents/getting-involved/in-your-community/volunteer-programme/otago/how-to-grow-kowhai.pdf

And Lois has 9 large-ish pittosporum trees that are free to a good home but need to be removed from her property if anyone would like them.

Contact us if you're interested or pop in and see us at the town hall.

A friend in need!

This is a call for volunteers!  Bexie our wonderful co-ordinator has been called back to the States for family and we could use a little help in her absence.

  • Can you spare an hour or two to volunteer at the centre?
  • A keen gardener (or keen to learn)? Are you free Wednesdays 1-3pm to help at the seedbank?
  • Free on Sundays to hang at the creative market?
  • Creative type? We'd love a hand putting together some displays for the centre...
  • Or just pop in for a cup of tea and stuff a door snake or two :)

Anyway you could lend a hand would be muchly appreciated.

So get involved in our awesome community. Call 8250480 or email us envirocentre@whaingaroa.org.nz or come in and see us at the Town Hall.

Curtain Call!

Do you have any spare curtains?
Do you know anyone that does?
Whaingaroa Environment Centre would love to have them!
>>ANY SIZE, ANY SHAPE, (ALMOST) ANY CONDITION<<

We are providing curtains to low income homes who live in cold and damp houses.
Well fitted lined curtains prevent heat loss through windows and shut out draughts. This makes curtains a fantastic, cost effective way of helping a family to stay warm and healthy.

Spread the word in your networks and lend a hand before winter really bites!
Call us 825 0480 or come in and see us if you can spare any curtains.

Pink Shirt Day

Pink Shirt Day

This email is sent out on behalf of Raglan Area School and the Raglan Community Violence Protection and Awareness Group.

Pink Shirt Day is a national and international event which aims to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting the development of positive social relationships; to create an environment where all people feel safe, valued and respected.

Pink Shirt Day will be held at Raglan Area School and throughout the community, on May 17th. The theme for 2013 is “Where’s the Power?” A colouring competition for juniors and a logo/slogan competition (for all - adults and children) are being held. This competition closes on 10th May (please contact us if you would like to have entry forms).

On Friday 17th May school children in our community will march from Raglan Area School (all our local schools have been invited to participate) through and around the town.

We are seeking the support of everyone in our community to get behind this initiative. We want to deliver a very strong message to our community that we don't want violence in any form.

The way that people can get involved is:

1. Wear Pink on May 17th – pink shirts, pink socks, pink shoelaces, pink ribbons, pink hair, tie pink balloons or ribbons to your car aerial or letterbox (particularly if you live in Norrie Ave Stewart St, Bow St) .........anything to show your support!
2. Join the Pink Shirt Day March at 12pm on May 17th. The March starts at 12noon. The March leaves the school at midday, goes down Norrie Ave, down Stewart St, into Wainui Road and then into and around Bow St.
3.  Add details of this to your own Facebook page.  Help us get the whole community behind this event.

Come show your support and encourage our kids as they pass on the Anti Violence message. Tell your friends!  Tell your neighbours!  Lets make this a day to remember.
